🇸🇳 In December 2022, Dakar made fashion history by hosting Chanel’s first-ever runway show in Africa.
The French fashion house chose the Senegalese capital to present its Métiers d’Art 2022/23 collection at the former Palais de Justice, bringing around 800 guests to the city, including Pharrell Williams, Naomi Campbell and Nile Rodgers. Senegalese creativity was central to the event. Obree Daman, dancers from the École des Sables and other local creatives joined a wider programme spanning fashion, dance, music, cinema and literature..
"A landmark moment for Dakar, Senegal and African creativity."
Beyond the runway, the event reflected the growing international reach of Senegal’s creative scene and the role culture can play in strengthening a country’s soft power.
